History of Bone-Cones

Ashby and RainbowAshby came up with Bone-Cone one day while she and I, (her mom) were having an ice-cream cone at a very popular ice-cream shop here in St. Louis.  Ashby was only 7 at the time!  We looked over at our mini-van, and there was our little dog Rainbow (a Shiatsu) nose pressed up against the glass, and licking her chops.  She wanted one!  Ashby said we should get her an ice-cream cone, and I said no, it was too messy for in the van.  That’s when Ashby said… “There should be a Bone-Cone Mom” and she proceeded to explain what that Bone-Cone could look like.

I told her I thought it was a great idea, and she asked if we could make some for Rainbow, and other dogs.  I said yes.  THEN I realized that we’d need a waffle cone iron.  I himmed and haaaed on that for months,  because a good one is so expensive.  But she kept on asking me, when are we going to make them.   We first made the bones, without the cones, just getting that part right.  Finally I made the investment in the waffle cone iron, and we started experimenting with how the bone could be wrapped in a little cone, and the cone would stay on.  We have finally perfected it….and the dogs are LOVING them!!

Ashby and her sister had a Stray Rescue calendar at the time, and she was really interested in helping out the dogs like she saw on the calendar go from injured and starving to having a loving home.  It really touched her, and she wanted to do something to help.  Her BoneCone idea seemed like the perfect way.

We first sold them to friends, and around the neighborhood.  Ashby sent $50 to Stray Rescue, and she is about to send them another $50, and I’m sure this will be happening a lot more often now.

We hope your dog and your doggie friends like them too, and we would love to hear from you!
